My interest in alternative firing techniques for ceramics brought me to Iranian architect Nadir Khalili’s ceramic houses and his (subsequent) Superadobe building technique that uses stacked earth-filled bags to create extremely stable structures. I’m interested in how Khalili’s clay-related innovations were on a large enough scale to impact contemporary disaster relief and utopian building traditions.
